3The Lord will not allow the [uncompromisingly] righteous to famish, but He thwarts the desire of the wicked.(A)
4He becomes poor who works with a slack and idle hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.
6Blessings are upon the head of the [uncompromisingly] righteous (the upright, in right standing with God) but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
7The memory of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked shall rot.(B)
8The wise in heart will accept and obey commandments, but the foolish of lips will fall headlong.
9He who walks uprightly walks securely, but he who takes a crooked way shall be found out and punished.
10He who winks with the eye [craftily and with malice] causes sorrow; the foolish of lips will fall headlong but [a]he who boldly reproves makes peace.
11The mouth of the [uncompromisingly] righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
12Hatred stirs up contentions, but love covers all transgressions.
13On the lips of him who has discernment skillful and godly [b]Wisdom is found, but discipline and the rod are for the back of him who is without sense and understanding.
14Wise men store up knowledge [in mind and heart], but the mouth of the foolish is a present destruction.
15The rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.(C)
16The earnings of the righteous (the upright, in right standing with God) lead to life, but the profit of the wicked leads to further sin.(D)
17He who heeds instruction and correction is [not only himself] in the way of life [but also] is a way of life for others. And he who neglects or refuses reproof [not only himself] goes astray [but also] causes to err and is a path toward ruin for others.
18He who hides hatred is of lying lips, and he who utters slander is a [self-confident] fool.(E)
19In a multitude of words transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.
20The tongues of those who are upright and in right standing with God are as choice silver; the minds of those who are wicked and out of harmony with God are of little value.
21The lips of the [uncompromisingly] righteous feed and guide many, but fools die for want of understanding and heart.
22The blessing of the Lord–it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].
23It is as sport to a [self-confident] fool to do wickedness, but to have skillful and godly Wisdom is pleasure and relaxation to a man of understanding.
24The thing a wicked man fears shall come upon him, but the desire of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall be granted.
25When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous have an everlasting foundation.(F)
26As vinegar to the teeth and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who employ and send him.
27The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord prolongs one’s days, but the years of the wicked shall be made short.
28The hope of the [uncompromisingly] righteous (the upright, in right standing with God) is gladness, but the expectation of the wicked (those who are out of harmony with God) comes to nothing.
29The way of the Lord is strength and a stronghold to the upright, but it is destruction to the workers of iniquity.
30The [consistently] righteous shall never be removed, but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth [eventually].(G)
31The mouths of the righteous (those harmonious with God) bring forth skillful and godly Wisdom, but the perverse tongue shall be cut down [like a barren and rotten tree].
32The lips of the [uncompromisingly] righteous know [and therefore utter] what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked knows [and therefore speaks only] what is obstinately willful and contrary.

Our Daily BreadPersonal integrity is often missing in today’s society. Our world-system sees nothing wrong with people who shade the truth or make promises they don’t intend to keep. The Christian, however, should be one “who walks with integrity.”
In an article in Moody Monthly, John Souter wrote, “It was 11:00 P.M. I was sitting at the console of a sophisticated typesetting machine while an advertising man, a Christian, looked over my shoulder. He had roused me from bed to do a rush job for his client. Somehow I sensed I would never be paid for this job. But I swept those feelings aside. After all, this was a brother—a born-again Christian who would certainly pay his bills. But my fears were on target. I was never paid. Unfortunately, that experience has not been unique to me. I’ve learned there is often a big difference between what Christians say and what they actually do.”
Apparently, many Christians have bought society’s lie that integrity isn’t important. As believers in Christ, though, we must follow the highest standards of personal honesty. When confronted with the temptation to compromise or to shade the truth, we must turn our backs on it and do what’s right, regardless of personal cost.

My Reflections
At first, it seems like Chapter 10 starts a whole new book. But you know what, it seems that chapters 1-9 really was preparing us to receive what follows. Look at it like this – if you are wise then you will get EVERYTHING that follows, you will WANT to read more, you will understand what is being said, and you will be able to apply the knowledge you receive. If you are foolish – you probably won’t read much from this point, you probably won’t understand it, and you won’t be able to apply the knowledge you learn from chapter 10 on.
Again, it’s a choice – Wise or Foolish

V6 – I popped out because I wondered what “conceals violence” meant. John Gill:
palliates and excuses it, and calls it by another name; or hides and conceals that which is in the heart, and does not utter it; see Pro_10:18. The Targum is,
“in the mouth of the wicked rapine is covered;”as a sweet morsel under their tongue, though in the end bitterness.
V13 – This popped out to me because many times in life I have had discernment about a situation. I find it hard to share that discernment because I have no proof for what I am receiving. However, when I have heeded or shared that discernment and followed what Wisdom has revealed to me, things have went well. When I haven’t, whoa, never turns out well and it sure felt like a rod on my back. The hardest part for me is getting others to understand what I am receiving from Wisdom when all I can say is, “I know, what I know, what I know. I can’t prove it, I just know.” I need to learn to walk in that knowledge that God has given to me and not be intimidated by what I think someone else will say about it.
V17 – Ah, yes – Amen to that. I’ve been a way of life for others and a path toward ruin for others. Almost every time that I have been a path toward ruin, it has been against someone’s instruction or correction. I have neglected or refused reproof from others. Thank God, there haven’t been that many times and Praise the Lord that it hasn’t read to a complete ruin for anyone.
V18 – “hides hatred is of lying lips” … intriguing … going to check it out further.
John Wesley: Lying lips – With flattering words. He here condemns two opposite vices, secret hatred, and manifest slander.
John Gill: who pretends to be a friend, and outwardly behaves as one, but inwardly nourishes and cherishes hatred in his heart, which he covers and conceals, till he has a proper opportunity of showing it; as Absalom to Ammon, Joab to Amasa, the men of Anathoth to Jeremiah, and Judas to Christ; … he is a liar, as the person next described is a fool. And he that uttereth slander is a fool; that brings it out by wholesale, and hides it not; who openly defames his neighbour, and in the most public manner; and with a multitude of words detracts from his good name, credit, and reputation, and loads him with calumny and reproach; such a man is a fool, a very wicked man. … yea, not only the public slanderer, but the secret dissembler, who thinks himself a cunning man because he hides himself; each of these is a fool, the one as well as the other.
slander: – defaming, evil report, infamy, slander / is an accusation maliciously uttered, with the purpose or effect of damaging the reputation of another. As a rule it is a false charge; but it may be a truth circulated insidiously and with a hostile purpose. Especially is false witness, which is “slander carried into a court of justice,” to be condemned and punished. Special cases of slander more than usually mean are when a wife’s chastity is falsely impeached by her husband (Deu_22:13-19), and when one slanders a servant to his master (Pro_30:10). (ISBE) / defamation: a false accusation of an offense or a malicious misrepresentation of someone’s words or actions
Ok, makes some sense now. Although the knowledge of it now makes me think even more. The first thing that comes to my mind is what have I said to someone that might qualify for this. But then, it dawned on me, how many times have I hidden hatred? Oh, sure, I’m sure we all had a few people’s faces flash before us, but I’m not thinking of that. I’m thinking of more complicated situations, situations where society and the world have made me feel like I have to accept things that I don’t believe. How many times have I been presented with something that I know is contrary to what God says and yet I have sat quietly and said nothing? How many times have I seen something that God has said he hated and I have turned a blind eye to it. How many times have I heard things that God has said makes him sad, and I have pretended I didn’t hear it. Each time, I knew I didn’t like it, I knew I didn’t agree with it, I knew God is disgusted by it, I HATED it, and yet I did nothing more than smile, remain quiet, tip-toe by, avoid the situation – hide my hatred behind lying lips. *lowers head* Quite honestly, this presents a real struggle for me now as I’m not sure I will pick this flag up and walk boldly with it. I’m not truly sure of how to carry it, when to wave it so to say. This one will require more counsel from the Lord.
Prayer
Father thank you for the Wisdom you present to us throughout the Bible. Thank you for your instructions and teaching. Lord, help me/us to hear what you are saying, understand it, and use the knowledge to apply it in our lives. Father, let not my ways conceal evil, help me to recognize, call it by it’s name, and bring light to it so that I will receive the blessings of a righteous person. Lord, help me to walk in the gift of discernment given freely by You. Help me to learn how to know when it is from You and when it is my flesh. Give me the boldness to walk skillfully in Your Godly Wisdom. Father, thank you for continuing to be with me in those times that I have chosen not to heed and listen to the discernment given by you and any wise counsel when it was given to me. Have mercy on and rescue any that I have led down the path of ruin. Give them spiritual and miraculous healing. I pray specifically for my sons whom I have instructed, guided and raise. Any actions or paths that I took that have affected or imprinted ungodly and unrighteous qualities in their character, I ask that you break them off of them. Lord, forgive me for any word that I have uttered in slander against anyone. Forgive me for having a heart that wanted to damage the reputation of another. Give to me a clean heart, a heart that speaks like Yours. Father I ask for forgiveness for any time I have hid a hatred, several times are flashing through my minds eye. Help me Lord as I am not clear on how to carry this out in my life. You say to seek you for knowledge, understanding, and wisdom and that is what I am doing. Give me all those to use what Your word teaches in a proper Godly way and not in a human, worldly, or fleshly way.
I pray for the fools will not be able to continue through as they do not seem to understand the knowledge You are revealing in the book of Proverbs.
