Crazy Love – Chapter 10

The author says, “I wrote this book because much of our talk doesn’t match our lives. We say things like, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” and “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Then we live and plan like we don’t believe God even exists.” How true that is. We don’t live out those statements. LOL I love this statement by the author, “A friend of mine once said that Christians are like manure: spread them out and they help everything grow better, but keep them in one big pile and they stink horribly. … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 10

Crazy Love – Chapter 9

This is a chapter that has to be read from the book. It’s not one to really take notes on. The title is Who Really Lives that Way? The opening scripture verse is 1 Corinthians 11:1, “follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” The chapter tells of stories that are true about  people who sought to live their lives fully surrendered to God. It ends with the author stating that he hopes that the stories in this chapter do more than encourage, he hopes that they eliminate every excuse for not living a radical, love-motivated life. This … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 9

Crazy Love – Chapter 8 (con’t)

“If one person “wastes” away his day by spending hours connecting with God, and the other person believes he is too busy or has better things to do than worship the Creator and Sustainer, who is the crazy one?” That is such a great question posed by the author. Wow. I used to have more time to spend with God when I was a single mom. The kids were off to school everyday. I worked 2.5 days a week and that was at a church. Life seemed a whole lot less complicated too. Now it seems like there are so … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 8 (con’t)

Crazy Love – Chapter 8

You know, I’ve thought about this verse several times and what it means, Luke 6:32-36 (AMP). 32If you [merely] love those who love you, what quality of credit and thanks is that to you? For even the [very] sinners love their lovers (those who love them).    33And if you are kind and good and do favors to and benefit those who are kind and good and do favors to and benefit you, what quality of credit and thanks is that to you? For even the preeminently sinful do the same.    34And if you lend money at interest to those from … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 8

Crazy Love – Chapter 7

What an interesting statement the author makes, “Something is wrong when our lives make sense to unbelievers.” Now there’s a thought. He talks about Noah and how for 120 years he built and ark and warned others of the impending judgement. ONE HUNDRED TWENTY YEARS, and I have a hard time trusting God when he takes 120 DAYS longer than I think he should! What does that say about me? I’m human. But this is something that I need to remember. It makes me think about Pastor Jim’s sermon the other day on Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendigo. They had so … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 7

Crazy Love – Chapter 6

The author starts right off getting real. He quotes John Piper who wrote, “The critical question for our generation – and for every generation – is this: If you could have heaven, no sickness, and with all the friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven, if Christ was not there?” Wow! How about that question. At first, … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 6

Crazy Love – Chapter 5 (cont)

Here is another deeply cutting thing the author points out. “It’s easy to fill ourselves up with other things and then give God whatever is left. Hosea 13:6 says, “When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.” God gets a scrap or two only because we feel guilty for giving Him nothing. A mumbled three-minute prayer at the end of the day, when we are already half asleep. Two crumpled-up dollar bills thrown as an afterthought into the church’s fund for the poor. Fetch, God!” Something about that “Fetch, God!” … Continue reading Crazy Love – Chapter 5 (cont)
