Amplified Version

To the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A song.

1IN JUDAH God is known and renowned; His name is highly praised and is great in Israel.2In [Jeru]Salem also is His tabernacle, and His dwelling place is in Zion.

3There He broke the bow’s flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

4Glorious and excellent are You from the mountains of prey [splendid and majestic, more than the everlasting mountains].

5The stouthearted are stripped of their spoil, they have slept the sleep [of death]; and none of the men of might could raise their hands.

6At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both chariot [rider] and horse are cast into a dead sleep [of death].(A)

7You, even You, are to be feared [with awe and reverence]! Who may stand in Your presence when once Your anger is roused?

8You caused sentence to be heard from heaven; the earth feared and was still–

9When God arose to [establish] judgment, to save all the meek and oppressed of the earth. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

10Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; the remainder of wrath shall You restrain and gird and arm Yourself with it.

11Vow and pay to the Lord your God; let all who are round about Him bring presents to Him Who ought to be [reverently] feared.

12He will cut off the spirit [of pride and fury] of princes; He is terrible to the [ungodly] kings of the earth.

My Reflections

WHOA! *shivers* That was my first reaction. God’s power sure comes through in this Psalm. It can be a little scary to think about it – maybe the word isn’t scared – but awestruck? I visualize a big football (or any sport) game where one team is undefeated for many years. If you are the other team, you can’t help but be intimidated by the record. But then I realized, I’m on the winning team! I know it’s not the best analogy, but you can’t help but see how it makes a difference whether you see the record from the winning team’s view-point, or the opponents. It changes how you feel about it, how you react to it, and how you talk about it.

Then I listed to the song I posted. Can’t you just see this song being a parade song? A song that the winning team would sing as they marched? That is exactly what it is, a song celebrating the power and awesomeness of God. Pick up your banners – put on your marching shoes – get your shout on! God IS known among his people! Excellent and glorious! He has slain the mighty warriors!! Awesome is the revelation – God is known among us here!!!

Listen to it again as if you are on the winning team! Go on … march around the room as you listen! Wave your flags (pretend if you have to)! Chase those enemies right out the door! God is known!!! And besides, God will enjoy watching you!  Psalm 76 – Zac Hicks + Cherry Creek Worship (lyrics if you want to shout along!)

Lord – You are known among us here! You are awesome, mighty, righteous, glorious, most high!! God you are my King, my Lord, my Strength! God thank you for your mighty works, your ever presences and everlasting peace and love. God, your Son IS the revelation – the deliverer, conquerer, and savior! I bring you praise, honor, and glory. I march in victory given to me by You and only You! I bring my life, my talents, my dreams, everything God, I bring it to you, the One to be feared. There is none like you. Awesome is the revelation – God is known among us here! AMEN! AMEN!
